  1. Total cholesterol level should be 135 - 200 mg/dL. LDL cholesterol ( bad cholesterol ) should be less than 130 mg/dL. HDL cholesterol ( good cholesterol ) should be greater than 30 mg/dL. Raising HDL cholesterol was not a priority until a few years ago. Most studies had focused on how lowering LDL cholesterol that can reduce the risk or coronary heart disease. But in the past few years, researchers have identified that HDL acted as an independent factor and was also critical in the overall health of your heart.God Bless. Take care always...
  2. The normal total cholesterol is less than 200 mg/dL or 5.17 mmol/L. Cholesterol is transferred in the body in lipoproteins and the most important are LDL and HDL. LDL is known as "bad" cholesterol because an increased LDL is associated with an increased risk of heart disease and other problems. The normal LDL is dependent on a person's risk for heart disease. If a person has no risk factors for heart disease, then their LDL should be below 160 mg/dL or 4.14 mmol/L. HDL is known as "good" cholesterol, because increased HDL is associated with a reduced risk of heart disease and other health issues. Ideally the HDL should be above 45 mg/dL or 1.16 mmol/L, but the higher the better. Good luck.
