- I don't know about dissolving cholesterol deposits. But nuts(almonds and walnuts are the best),oatmeal, garlic are food sources show to lower cholesterol. Plant sterols have been shown to lower cholesterol. They can be bought in pill form, found in some foods and orange juices. The vitamin niacin is used for cholesterol control as well. The niacin is given in high doses--1000 mg or more once a day. If you try niacin make sure you get flush-free or it's hello hot flash.
